HUMANITIES DEGREE
Hi! My name is Jake Peverada (if you haven’t already discovered) and I have always been excited to learn history. I learned Latin in High School, and went on to major in humanities. I attended Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts where I spent most of my time continuing a deep dive into Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. In 2014 I received my degree in World Languages, Heritage Studies & Public History. I continued my appreciation for the Early Medieval period by joining a Viking Age reenactment group based in Boston, MA.
VIKING REENACTMENT
I am a proud member of the International Army of Jomsborg, Boston Chapter. I train in traditional Viking reenactment combat. Our team meets weekly in Allston, and we practice with various weapons, all blunted steel, to build on skills such as teamwork, problem solving, and tactical strategy. The modern Viking movement is growing rapidly here in the United States, and is well established in Europe. I hope to continue my journey in the Viking scene through Jomsborg, and I truly enjoy the time I spend meeting new people and developing my skills. Globally, Jomsborg specializes in the Viking Age (9th-11th centuries), but our Boston group specifically focuses on 9th-11th century Ireland. The Vikings who invaded and immigrated to Ireland deeply assimilated with the local Celtic ethnic groups and developed a creole culture known as the Hiberno-Norse.

After being a member for about 8 months, I realized my artistic talent for creating leather items, cast jewelry, producing clothing & accessories, and carving drinking horns. I thought, why not develop this passion into a small business that I can nurture. I launched VikingHistory.com, an ecommerce website for reenactors, larpers, renaissance fair-goers, and general Medieval enthusiasts. I’ve continued to watch the business grow, and plan to invest more and more of my time helping those who want to learn about the Vikings and Iron Age Norse people.
